PRESS RELEASE: Thief River Falls, Minn. (Jan. 29, 2008) – Untouchable domination was the theme for Monster Energy/Arctic Cat’s Tucker Hibbert at ESPN’s Winter X Games 12. Saturday night, millions of viewers worldwide witnessed Hibbert add medal number seven to his collection in the longest Winter X Games snocross final in history.
In round one of qualifying Friday night, Hibbert took the hole-shot and led all eight laps to lock in the coveted number one qualifying position for the final. After two rounds of qualifying, 20 riders were cut and the stage was set for a 12-rider, 25-lap final event.
Saturday night, Hibbert not only won the final, he flat out dominated it. His Monster Energy/Arctic Cat hooked up on the start and ripped the hole-shot, leaving his competition in the snow dust. He rode flawless and incredibly smooth every lap to take his third gold medal 16 seconds ahead of silver medalist,Brett Turcotte.
This marks Hibbert’s second dominating Winter X Games run in a row. Last year, he led 15 of the 18 laps and finished an impressive 15 seconds ahead of second place.
Hibbert has only one race left on his snocross schedule this season before switching gears to motocross. His final race is in Vernon, New York Feb. 9-10 where last year he made history by winning all six qualifiers and both final events. Tucker Hibbert – #68 Monster Energy/Arctic Cat:
“This is unbelievable. I couldn’t ask for anything more. My Monster Energy/Arctic Cat with the Speedwerx clutching launched off the start, into the first corner and into the lead. My sled ran perfect the entire race. The whole crew has been working so hard and has my sled dialed. We put everything we got into this event so it feels great to see it pay off.
The Winter X Games is truly a first class event and I’m honored to be a part of it. They raised the bar this year with a 25-lap event but I’m ready for an even longer course and race. I felt strong the entire race. This is my job so there is no excuse not to be in shape and ready for a long final. I have to thank my crew, who never stops working, and all the amazing companies that support me. I am so blessed.”
